Advanced Professional Writing in English

Native speakers of languages other than English who work for the U.S. government need strong writing and intercultural communication skills to maximize their effectiveness in a government workplace. The Center for Advanced Proficiency in English (CAPE) trains advanced English speakers employed by Department of Defense (DoD) entities to write more effectively and improve their intercultural communication in the context of an American workplace.

CAPE offers courses for groups of 10-15 which are funded through a grant from the The Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO). Participants who complete the course receive language training credit at their DoD entity. The CAPE Program is open to non-native English speaking participants currently employed by a DoD entity. Former participants of the English for Heritage Language Speakers program are encouraged to participate. Courses can be scheduled by contacting cape@umbc.edu or through our DoD partners.
